Caring for old decks – storage, airing them, etc

My mother recently gifted me her old RWS deck from the early 70s. It's absolutely beautiful and I would like to use it on occasion but am a little worried as I don't want to ruin them.

She didn't have the original box for them so they've been kept in a velvet pouch for some time and, as she put it herself, "smells of old lady"!

Does anyone have any ideas or how to air the cards out (I have carefully checked the deck and cannot find any signs of mold) and a better way to store them?
