How did you learn to make closed questions into open-end questions

I usually get from people yes or no questions, or when.

I personally do not like yes or no questions and always look how to turn them in to "action" (open-end) questions so people know what they could "do" to help them make that next step

How did you learn to change closed questions to open-end questions.

You guys are awesome at it, I feel I am still struggling with it.

Any tips or advice how I can help myself with this
