Nine of Swords as what someone most *wants* to do?? WTF?

Hi everyone! Just when I feel like I am usually having a pretty good understanding of messages, I get one in a reading which puzzles the heck out of me.

I asked “what does x want from this relationship?” & I drew 9 of swords

WTF? They want to be anguished, depressed, sleepless and have nightmares? They want to cause the other person to be anguished, depressed, sleepless and have nightmares? They want to be obsessed about the other person, or have the other person obsess over them? I'm not getting this. If the card was representing a fear or an obstacle I could understand it better, but as someone's deepest desire??
