Opinions on the Waite’s Pictorial Key To The Tarot?

I'm a sucker for a desk crammed with symbolism. I didn't pick up the RWS deck till recently tho. I'm looking for some super in depth info as to why certain aspects of the card were chosen and what they mean, but I've been seeing a lot of negative things about this book. Is it worth a read? Any other alternatives?
