Tarot Cloth Usage

After many years with only one deck, I backed a few tarot Kickstarters in 2021. I noticed that some tarot creators were offering tarot cloths as add-ons. I got to wondering if the use of a tarot cloth had a functional benefit or is mainly esthetic? If you use one and it's torn or frayed, does it hurt your reading (other than looking unappealing)?
