Why is Binah of Air negative?

I've been going deep on tarot lately, trying to understand each card in terms of its relationship to the Tree of Life and their astrological attributions (using Liber T as a guide thelema.org/publications/books/LiberT.pdf).

I'm confused as to why the Three of Swords is primarily the heart-break/disappointment card. I don't understand why Binah (i.e. 3) of Air (i.e. Swords) is attributed with this energy. I thought maybe it would be closed-mindedness or even just "establishment of thought", but I don't get why this is related to heartbreak and sorrow. Can someone explain this to me?
